DESCRIPTION:Come Share Your Talents and Help Students See What’s Possible!Carroll Springs School is seeking five artists and creative professionals to visit its life skills and post-secondary classes over the next few months and introduce students to the many careers found in the arts! \nTattoo artists\, video game designers\, cartoonists\, and creatives of all kinds are welcome! This is an opportunity to share your work\, introduce the tools of your trade\, and offer a glimpse into your creative career. \nCarroll Springs is a separate day school serving students with complex medical needs. Participating students are ages 14–20\, use wheelchairs and alternative communication systems\, and will attend in a group of up to 12 students. School staff are excited to collaborate with visiting artists to make each experience accessible and engaging. \nTuesday or Friday afternoons are preferred\, with scheduling flexibility. Select from a large buffet of new and vintage ceramic and stone tiles\, stained glass\, beads\, and found artifacts. Here’s your chance!\nIn this class we will explore painting with soft pastels through the process of layering to create a fall landscape. Karen will review briefly the variety of pastels from hard to soft\, the choices in papers\, underpainting processes\, mark making\, and layering. She will demonstrate the process of creating an underpainting with watercolor and the layering of pastels to create subtle changes in color and value and invites you to paint your own fall landscape. \nNovember 7\, 2026\n10:00am – 4:00pm\nAges 18+\nStudents Age 12-17 may register with a registered adult \nMaterials students should bring with them: \n\nSoft pastels in a variety of colors (not oil pastels!)\nLight-colored pastel paper preferably white or cream. DESCRIPTION:The LiveboxCome Explore this COMMON GROUND DOWNTOWN EVENT!\nThe Livebox is a project to revive traditional music from Maryland and the Chesapeake.  Drawing from field recordings\, printed collections\, and extant oral traditions\, it imagines a second genesis of American traditional music birthed in the wake of 20th century folk revivals. \nThe Livebox is a duet between traditional singers Peter Brice (button accordion) and Tess Hartis (fiddle)\, classically-trained musicians whose formative experiences beyond conservatory immersed them in a heritage of the living past. \n\nPETER BRICE Ballad Singer\, Button Accordionist\, Composer | Peter Brice sings old songs in a traditional style and plays Irish and American traditional music on the button accordion. A native Annapolitan and an exponent of Baltimore\, Maryland’s Irish traditional music community\, Peter’s work blends singing and musicianship with history\, humor\, colorful design\, and a vision for traditional culture as a foundation for an intellectual life. He is the director of the New Century American Irish-Arts Company. \nTESS HARTIS Fiddler\, Singer\, Composer | Tess Hartis is a fiddle player and classical violinist from South Carolina. She has performed extensively with Hup Traditional Irish Band and Istanpitta Early Music Ensemble in Houston\, TX\, as well as with the South Carolina Philharmonic\, and with regional orchestras on the East Coast and Texas.
