Filmmaker Lucy Walker looks to answer a question humanity can no longer afford to ignore: why are catastrophic wildfires increasing in number and severity around the world, and can anything be done to lessen the staggering death and destruction it causes? Dr. Elyzabeth (Elly) Engle is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at McDaniel College, where she teaches courses on environmental justice, agriculture and food systems, and sustainability. She also coordinates McDaniel’s Agrifood Program, including student-led organic gardens and a food forest. Elly’s research examines the ways in which community-led food initiatives contribute to localized sustainable development and social justice for all. Stick around for a post-film chat with Dr. Engle after the 7:30pm screening!
